The Montessori Method is based on the child's developmental
needs for freedom within limits and a carefully prepared environment.
This method guarantees exposure to materials and experiences to develop
intelligence as well as physical and psychological abilities. It is
designed to take full advantage of the self-motivation and unique
ability of children to develop their own capabilities. The Montessori
classroom is divided into many areas, so the child can choose work
independently at his or her own level.
Having a multi-age environment allows the children
to grow as their interests lead them from one level of complexity
to another. The younger children are given the opportunity to learn
from the older children as the older children become the younger child's
role models. The younger children allow the older children an opportunity
to reinforce the knowledge that they have previously learned and also
to be in the role as a leader and teacher.
